AFGHANISTAN
Ah, Afghanistan
- always conquered, never held. The modern state (or, rather, "state")
took shape in the 18th century under the Durrani dynasty. Between
then and the 1940s there may have been a few years in which no fighting
occurred. It may indeed be true that the last 25 years of the last
king's reign comprised the longest period of peace since, oh, maybe before
Alexander the Great.
