CAMBODIA
The Khmer kingdom engaged in some
rather advanced hydraulic engineering projects about 700 years ago.
The country experienced some rather grotesque political activity in the
last century from which it has not fully recovered. Probably will
take a generation, maybe more. Recall those incidents of yore in
which all of the inhabitants of some town had their noses cut of as punishment
for something. Those people did not recover and their children carried
the trauma after. Two generations to get over it. Once I asked
a Cambodian who was looking for something to do why he didn't open a Cambodian
restaurant and he responded that Cambodian food was the same as Thai only
not as nice.
