CHINA, after Han and before Tang, 220-618 AD
During most of these four centuries China was divided into a number of regional states.  The period of disunity is subdivided by historians into the "Three Kingdoms Era," 220-265 AD, the time of the Jin Dynasty, 265-420, and the "Division of the North and the South," 386-589.  In that latter year the country was unified under the Sui Dynasty, which endured until the start of Tang in 618.  Some wierd stuff happened during these centuries, though nothing could be as wierd as what happened during the reign of Wang Mang.  Do a Google search.  History is fun.  Or maybe not so much fun as interesting.  With the exception of electricity everything that happens now has happened before.

The story of the Wei dynasty, founded by Turkish nomads, dedicated to social justice, reforms carried too far, alienation ensuing, civil war erupting, dynasty ending, is, to me, exquisitely poignant.

The "standard" coin of this type with the rim around the hole on the back does not have those incuse numbers.  Attribution to the Liang dynasty is traditional but is, I think, considered to be provisional.  These incuse number things are a new find (2003).

CHINA, DIVISION OF NORTH AND SOUTH, 386-589 AD, Tian Qing Feng Le, FD-666.  Exactly who had this coin made is not known at this time.  In Ding it is listed with the odd Wu Zhu varieties, just after Wu Zhu Bai Qian.  This coin is 22mm, note the sideways Tian & Feng.  In 2000 it was a $500+ coin, price now stabilized at this lower level.
