    If the Argentine generals, in a desperate attempt to save their foundering dictatorship, had not invaded the Falklands, none of us would have ever heard of them.  Except for the world coin collectors of course, who are the only class of people who can rattle off all 200+ countries (and "countries") in the world without stopping to think.  And, to be fair, the philatelists.
