HONDURAS,
The name of the country means "the depths" and refers to the extreme jungle encountered by the Spaniards when they arrived.  Living in that jungle were the Maya, who were extremely tough.  It took the Spanish almost a century to subdue them.  When they did they found there wasn't much of that yellow metal they were so crazy about, and the agricultural possibilities seemed limited at the time.  They proceeded to neglect it, which habit of governance has continued through the independence period until this very day.

These coins were evidently struck at the mint in various degrees of fineness from highish grade silver to copper.  There are also counterfeits, many plated.  Hard to distinguish mint products from outside jobs.
