COINS OF THE 12 CAESARS - EARLY EMPERORS OF ROME
The modern construction of a "Roman Republic" that was succeeded by a "Roman Empire" is incorrect.  Rome became the ruler of an empire, meaning that it governed territories and peoples other than Roman, in the 2nd century BC.  The political forms of the Republic continued into the period we call Imperial.  It was the extraordinary and perpetual powers granted/taken by Augustus, and the right of the holder to designate an heir, that makes the difference between "before" and "after."  Augustus was advertised and hailed as the "Savio(u)r of the Republic."

It has been traditional to list coins of Agrippa, etc. in the period of their life as if they had actually struck the coins on their own authority.  Sear's new arrangement, placing of the coins in the reign of the emperor who actually struck them, kind of makes more sense to me.
