CHINA, bells
    The bell is possibly the second oldest musical instrument after the drum.  Everyone knows that evil spirits don't like bells, and everyone knows that bells open the doors to the higher worlds.  Right?  Funny how things get turned around sometimes.

CHBL5) CHINA, HAN?, c. 200 BC-200 AD, bronze bell, 43x34x24mm, oval mouth, rectangular face, the wide sides each pierced with 2 triangular holes, rectangular handle, the clapper was a stone on a string, nice brown surface from fresh water immersion, F $21.00

CHBL2) CHINA, bronze bell, decorated with seal script legend & dragons, fuzzy 4 character maker mark inside contains "Jia," maybe S. Song, 1201 AD, more likely Ming or Qing?  Meant to be mounted in a frame & struck with a mallet, hence no clapper, 92x90mm (3.5x3.75"), 369g, 2 solder spots on top from a handle which was added later & then removed, nicer than the one I had early in 2002, F $133.00 sold
